Chief Resident Welcome

Welcome!

We are happy that you are interested in learning more about our residency program!

The Chicago Medical School Psychiatry Residency Program under Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is a mid-sized psychiatry residency program with multiple inpatient and outpatient learning opportunities. We are a close-knit program with strong relationships among our residents, attending physicians, and program leadership.

Our residents spend four years rotating through a variety of clinicalsettings including a Federal Healthcare Center, state and community hospitals, and several outpatient clinics throughout Chicago and northern Chicago suburbs. We encourage residents to obtain a variety of experiences throughout their time with us and offer different options to do so. Our program also offers the opportunity to moonlight and/or fast-track.

Rosalind Franklin’s graduates are held in high esteem throughout Illinois and are known throughout the country. Many go on to fellowship programs in multiple psychiatric areas in multiple US states. Others choose to pursue careers in diverse inpatient or outpatient settings, including running outpatient practices or working at hospitals doing inpatient and/or outpatient work. We also pride ourselves in retaining a number of residents who go on to become attending physicians, teaching future residents. Our program director, Dr. Paul Hung, is a graduate of our program and is dedicated to making sure each resident has a valuable learning experience as he did.

Our residents join us from a variety of walks of life, from paths of continuous education to those looking for a second career. I personally joined the program a second career after nearly a decade of teaching in my home state of Hawaii, and I am very grateful for my experiences here.

We seek residents who share our passion and commitment to psychiatry. We are a community with a family feel and we enjoy spending time with each other and each other’s families outside of work. Should you join our incoming class in July ‘22, we look forward to greeting you with the same enthusiasm!

I encourage you to spend time looking through our website. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Allison Lawler, MD
