Chandra Vedak, MD
Dr. Chandra Vedak attended Grant Medical College, affiliated with Bombay University. He has been involved in psychiatric education of medical students and residents at RFUMS/CMS for over 25 years.
Originally trained as an orthopedic and trauma surgeon, Dr. Vedak switched to psychiatry after immigrating to the United States in 1981. He received his psychiatry training at Chicago Medical School, where he also served as a chief resident from 1985-87.
During his tenure as a core RFUMS/CMS faculty member, he served as co-director of residency training in psychiatry from 2008-16. He also served as psychiatry site director for Elgin Mental Health Center (1997-2008) and James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (2008-16). He is now the psychiatry site director for Horizons Behavioral Health (2015- current). He has been a recipient of several teaching awards. He is currently a chairman of the psychiatry department at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, IL.
Dr. Vedak is a recipient of several community service awards including: Exemplary Physician of the Year (1998 and 2002) by Illinois Chapter of National Alliance for Mentally Ill (NAMI), and the Hands and Heart Award by Department of Veterans Affairs (2012).
