Pengli Bu, PhD

Assistant Professor

Dr. Pengli Bu, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, joined the College of Pharmacy in October of 2019. Dr. Bu received her BS in Biology from Shan Dong University, Shan Dong province, P.R. China and her MS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Peking Union Medical College (now Tsinghua University Medical School), Beijing, P.R. China. She obtained her PhD in Toxicology from the department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she then continued her postdoctoral training in the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Bu then moved to St. John's University in New York, where she continued her research as a postdoctoral researcher and taught core-curriculum courses in the departments of Biological Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.

Throughout her training and research experience, Dr. Bu has employed cell lines, stem cells, and genetically engineered mouse models as research tools to investigate mechanisms underlying normal and disease conditions. By combining her toxicologist background and her expertise in endocrinology and reproductive biology, Dr. Bu’s research focuses on how environmental contaminants adversely impact male reproductive functions. Dr. Bu’s investigation focuses on the molecular mechanisms linking chemical stimulus to pathological outcome at both cellular and organismal levels.
