Wellness Week 2019 offered students an opportunity to recharge and renew, with activities the week of Feb. 4 ranging from painting and pottery classes to cooking demos and late-night breakfast.

“With our students focusing so much time and effort on their studies, Wellness Week reminds them to take care of themselves and provides resources to do so,” said Dylan Hast, fitness and recreation specialist in the Division of Student Affairs and Inclusion. “We try to hit every area of wellness with our programming.”

Whether students were seeking social, creative, physical or spiritual outlets, there was likely an activity that fit the bill. Events like coffee-cocoa and game night provided opportunities to socialize with classmates, while painting classes and pottery making allowed students to get creative. In addition to regularly scheduled fitness classes, Wellness Week offered new programs like Power Yoga, as well as fitness assessments and fitness center orientations. Cooking demos with Chef Marc Vitello from Food for Thought and a visit to Heinen’s grocery store emphasized the nutrition component of wellness, and Monica Cummings, DMin, director of training and educational programs, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, offered spiritual mentoring and Reiki healing sessions.

Students also learned about the benefits available through their health insurance, and tax experts came to campus to address financial wellness. The week wrapped up with a student wellness fair that promoted resources available year round on campus and in the local community.
